Default 1980 2cycle clunking when starting and stopping

Just bought my 1980 ezgo three wheeled 2 cycle golf cart yesterday seems like it runs fine when it gets going. When I press the gas pedal from a complete stop it makes a horrible loud clunking sound now u can pull the choke for a quick second and get it to not do it but it also makes the same clucking sound when u are coming to a stop doesn't make this noise while driving just from starting from a complete stop or coming to a stop please help.couldn't find much by googling it. Thanks for any help

Possibly something loose in the driven clutch but there's not a lot you can do if that's the case besides replace the clutch. And honestly I have no idea if it is or not. If I were you I'd look up a local golf course and find out where they take their carts. Get yours over there and get it diagnosed at least. You'll have to shell out a few bucks for it but at least you won't be blindly throwing money at your cart.

Sounds like secondary clutch to me too, try and put some dry film lube on the center bushing on the secondary clutch probably sticking open.

No problem, if it still gives you problems, might want to pull the clutch, and change the bushing out, also may want to stretch the spring to give it a little more tension. Unfortunately Most of the time by doing these thing's all your going to do is prolong the inevitable, which is a clutch replacement, these thing's wear out, and it's amazing what a difference a fresh clutch can make in performance.
