Runs on choke only!!

I took my carb off, looked clean. Drained all of the old gas out of it and replaced with new. Started pretty good, ran normal for about 500ft than I had to keep the choke on in order for it to stay running. So I shut it down before any damage could be done. I pulled the plug and it is clean, yet a little white on the tip. What could be the problem now?

Check and make shure you are getting fuel and if you are then there is something wrong with the carb.

I am getting fuel. That is why it is confusing. What could be wrong with the carb. Reason I am asking is because to take the carb off it is a pain in the a$$.

clean the low jet of the carb, its a very tiny orifice that needs to be cleaned. also check and make sure the needle and seat are working properly and the float is adjusted properly.
cliff notes: take carb back off, pain or not, it needs attention

what cart is this,? did it ever run / did you just get it, / how long has it been sitting / cracked gas line, vent in tank not open, bad fuel pump, carb needs a GOOD cleaning,

Like they said,pull the carb,and clean everything.The main-jet can get Varnish in it from old-gas,and nothing but cleaning it will remove it.Make sure to remove the jets and needles and blow thru every passage with carb-cleaner and compressed-air if you have it.Torch-Tip Cleaners work great for jets and passages,just don't use one that is too big,start small,and work up to the size that is close(but still smaller,they will cut the bore,and change the size if forced).Drain the fuel,any old,nasty fuel will ruin the new fuel.A new filter would be a good idea too.Hope this helps.

Everyone here is giving great advice. The only thing I can add is that I had a similar problem with my cart last year. I have a 18hp big block, but I had some bad gas that caused my fuel line to disintegrate internally and clogged the fuel filter and carb with junk. I removed the carb and manually cleaned it several times with little improvement. Finally, I went to the local parts store and purchased a gallon can of carb cleaner with a parts basket inside. I again removed the carb, disassembled it completely, and soaked each section in the cleaner until it looked like new. Once everything appeared clean as new I assembled the carb using new gaskets and installed on the engine. Started the engine and after a few minutes the engine was running the way it should.

A helpful tip, use at least one can of carb cleaner spray to wash out all the carb cleaning chemicals from the can. You might see some smoke and have a rough idle for a couple of minutes, but all of that should go away if your engine has no other problems.

Yes, I have had this kart for 5 years now. Replaced the engine last year, ran it out of gas (dumb me). Than ran it for about another month before storing it. Used fuel additive for winter storage. Started it up, beginning of this season and that is when it ran for a couple of miles than it started to act up. Drained old fuel out, replaced filter, checked gas lines and cleaned carb. But I didn't clean the jets, nor did I do a real thorough cleaning.

Will let you guys know when she is up and running well again.
