River Flooded - Cart sat underwater for about 10 days
I have a stock EZ-GO Gas cart (circa 2002) that ran fine pre-flood. After the river went down I drained the oil, took the plugs and air filter out, hooked up a battery and got it to crank until no more water came out. Sprayed everything I could with WD-40.
The cart then sat for about 3 weeks as I focused on cleaning out my house. Today I tried hitting the go pedal and nothing happened (battery is a little low but I didn't even here a click). Besides confirming the year of the cart, would someone be willing to rattle off a list of things to check or test. My guess is I have a bunch of electrical parts to test/replace. Also, is there a recommended repair manual that I should pick up. To date, the only thing I have done to this cart is change the oil and put gas in it. Given how much I have had to throw away as a result of this flood, I am committed to getting this thing back running - Any and all help is welcome!!!! Regards, John |

Welcome to BGW
1. Solenoid 2. Microswitches .....I would check those 2 first off then go from there. Chances are the solenoid is completely rusted as well as the micros, only because you can't really get to them to clean them internally. You could try jumpung te solenoid to see if she cranks over. |

My guess was the solenoid also - I will try jumping it to get things spinning.
Where are the micro-switches? |

OK - Look in the repair manual - The micro-switch is in the accelerator box.
I assume I access that from underneath the cart. Will look tomorrow. If there is a trick I should know about, please advise. |

Take the sill plates off or loose, slide the floormat back enough to get to the little access panel, remove, then the last litte cover and there she'll be. Check out the service parts manual and you'll see the panels-covers. |

OK - Got it cranking but cranking slowly - Accelerator switch is bad but when it catchs, the solenoid clicks and it starts cranking slowly.
Observation: I tried pushing the cart to a different area of hte shop and it was very hard to push. There is a lot of resistance in the drive-train. I haven't drained the read-end yet but that is my next step. Assuming it is full of water, would that cause a bunch of resistance. Does anything else come to mind? It seemed like I was turning the read-end and the motor as i was pushing the cart. Do these things normally roll pretty easily? |

Your brakes may be filled with river sediment and could be dragging the chassis down. Or the cables could be rusty and too snug on the shoes. Just something else to look at.

Brakes - I power washed the cart to get the muck off but the brakes would still be full of sediment.
Good point! This will seem like a dumb question: Am I correct that the cart would normally be fairly easy to push (no the brake is not on)? Should it be turning anything on the motor or transmission/read-end? **** I have been driving this cart for 3 years and only put gas in it and changed the oil. This winter will be a good time to really get to know my cart. |
