1986 EZGO three wheeler trouble
i just got this cart on a trade. It ran awesome for an hour then it started losing power and would only run on full choke. Now it just cranks and starts up sporadically for a few seconds . i wanted to pull the carb and clean it. this friday but dont know the tools i will need to bring with me to remove it . does anyone have a repair manual or know anything about what i will need. also tips and tricks of the trade would be helpful.
its my first cart 244cc robin engine |

Re: 1986 EZGO three wheeler trouble
Welcome to BGW Carb is easy to remove maybe 10mm or7/16 wrench you'll need allen wrench's for the throttle and choke cables. long flat tip screw driver for the jets and a big flat tip for the needle seat remove. Torch tip cleaners or a piece of fine wire maybe pulled from a wire brush will work. Don't forget the carb cleaner and if you have compressed air that would be great. Also look at the diagram BREWCITY has posted. Simple job take your time and clean every hole.

Re: 1986 EZGO three wheeler trouble
Ok, Here is where I'm at. I pulled the carb off and opened it up expecting to see a gummed up mess. this was not the case . everything was extremely clean . So i re-install the carb and pull the spark plug (which is fouled) check compression its at 100. replace plug with a new one tighten everything up and try it out . it was cranking but no go . so i pull the fuel line of the carb and squirt some into the carb wait a few minutes and its fires up few about 30 seconds .
so i dont know what i am missing . maybe the carb adjustment is off also after cranking i pull the plug back out and its dry.So i would say its safe to assume the problem is the carburetor . any other ideas . i forgot to mention that i do have spark . |

Re: 1986 EZGO three wheeler trouble
The carb can *look* sparkly-clean but it's not going to work correctly if the jets are plugged, which is going to require a complete teardown and cleaning (thankfully a simple job) ... Let's start with a diagram, this is Your carb in an exploded view, and I have circled all the "Ususal Suspects" meaning pay special attention to the jets, needle valve, etc when You clean it (best to use a can of spray carb cleaner and blow them all out, every single tiny passage and hole needs to be unobstructed)
There really are no adjustments to these carbs except the low-speed idle mix, which isn't relevant as these engines don't idle. Give her a good thorough cleaing, reassemble and try it out again. If there is STILL nothing, then we may have to run a test or two to see if your crank seals are bad - let's hope the carb cleaning does it ! |

Re: 1986 EZGO three wheeler trouble
I think a quick check of the fuel pump may be in order. Remove the fuel line at the carb and crank it to be sure the carb is getting fuel. If so the needle for the float may be sticking preventing fuel from entering the carb bowl.. With the line removed from the carb attach a longer piece of hose to it and see if you can blow in it. You may have to loosen the fuel bowl nut to be sure there is no fuel in it. Then try it.
