Default Missing and serging

Hello I’m new here and have found a lot of great info. I have had electric carts before and worked on both gas and electric,
I now have a 2000 TXT E-Z-GO M# E100 S# 1271009 gas 4 stroke that has a problem I can’t solve.
When I first got it blew the battery because the voltage regulator was putting out 18 plus volts constant. Needless to say after a few days even after cleaning and all the acid off and trying to neutralize it still had negative effects.
1. The voltage was replaced with one from an 84 dodge Omni with a voltage reading between 13.5 idle to 15.5 wide open with lights.
2. Solenoid went out replace wit a always open automotive works great.
3. Igniter was replaced with the GM HEI ignition module after plugs quit firing and ran great.

Rebuilt carb and replaced lines and filter, replaced all wire terminals, adjusted valves .004, replaced plugs, checked fuel pump

Now here is the problem I’m having it has a strong blue fire and starts really well no choking but surges when I accelerate and it begins to miss bad and want open up , but if I take a test light and check the fire at the plugs the cylinder passenger side goes dead as it should engine dies. The second cylinder next to clutch when checked does fire bit when you apply the test light instead of the cart but going dead it loses fire as it should and the engine opens up even though the cylinder is dead on this cylinder plug also runs black, cart also will back fire when letting off and applying gas.
The governor had been tightened completely and I did reset to tec. manual

If you rebuilt the carb, and it surges now, you're probably running way too rich. The clutch side plug is probably fouled. Take the plugs out and see if they both spark. Install new plugs and check spark again. Check the float level in the carb.

Thanks, I live 45 miles out of town and will get 2 new sets plugs tomorrow it is fowled out.
Also I keep seeing where the EZGO motor runs backwards and the rear end will have to be changed if the engined is changed,
I chhecked mine and the engine runs the same rirection in both forward and reverse ( counter clock wise ) and the transmission actually shifts.
So if I under stand right changing the engine would be fairly aesy and use all the charging and starting components from the new engine. the hardest part is the mounting and excelerator cable which shouldn't be to bad.

The older 2-strokes ran forward/backward for forward/reverse. The 4-strokes do not. You can find alot of info on this forum about upgrading the motor.
Make sure you check the float level. It probably needs to be lowered to shut the fuel off sooner.

HEI Ignition on 2000 TXT E-Z-GO M# E100 S# 1271009 gas 4 stroke that has a problem I can’t solve
OK maybe some one can help as before I said I switched to the HEI Ignition, I know where those with a 4 cycle are having problems but I don't know how we can correct it I've tried everything I know.
I noticed everyone having a similar problem with the loss of power, missing etc.
I read the post and saw where going to either a .050 or .012 gap on the plugs would help, .012 worked best for me but still not right, it still sluggish and pops as well as over heats.
Here is the problem with the 4 cycle if you use the HEI ignition and it doesn’t run right you switch the wires on the HEI, what this does is lets the passenger side cylinder fire hotter, even though it will run better backwards, forward want hardly go no matter what.
This is what has happened the clutch side cylinder / plug does not have a strong enough fire to burn all the fuel and that’s the smell some of us have. When you close the plug gap it will fire and run better but it will also over heat the engine.
My question now is has any one found a way to get both cylinders to fire hot with the HEI.
If you want to see if this is happing to you it’s a easy check, take a test light and hook to the battery ground, puncture the coil wire and touch the plug if the engine stalls its firing good, if the sound of the engine doesn’t change see if you can rev it up if you can the cylinder is dead ( weak fire.) This can be done in neutral at just above or at a idle speed.
Waiting to hear some thoughts on this.
Thanks
Rick
