Question 89 EZGO Marathon

I acquired a raggy old Marathon thats been sitting 5 years. The imput shaft into the differential is real loose in the housing and the driven clutch is broken. Both may have happened at the end of someones hammer, not sure. How do I remove/repair the imput shaft and where can I get a used driven clutch and is it worth fooling with. The cart is a rag, no battery, needs tires, starter works and engine runs with good compression. Your thoughts please...

OPPPS I think you need to post a WTB in the parts section for a used rear and clutch it's going to be cheaper to replace it than to try to rebuild it. The input shaft would also be the pinion and if you pull the rear cover you may get an idea of how much damage has been done. BEARING only ???? maybe but i'm thinking unless you have a bearing number your not going to find it. With that said members on here convert some of the older carts to BIG BLOCK which requires a F/R rear end and remove the old one and have no use for it. SO ??? as for as is it worth it I would say YES if it runs check the prices on used carts WOW. Be advised the engine and S/G is a sellable item if you decide not to repair it and part it out. We can all use pieces

You should also be aware that 1989 was the changeover year from the 2PG to the 3PG engine. If your clutches are aligned with the rear axle you have a 2PG (high output) if they are are at 90 degrees to the axle then you have the more powerful (11hp) 3PG engine. In either case the clutch is on splines and held on by four bolts. Compared to the drive clutch it is easy to remove from inspection.

Thanks for your replies. It is a 3PG. I have everything off of the cart, gas tank and everything, I think I'll lift it vertical on my lift and tear into the rear just to see what I have left. Used rear and used clutch looks like the way to go, or I may just part it out. Dave, the clutch was held on by one center bolt and a machined washer. I was able to pull it from the shaft, but the internal damage had already been done. Does the input shaft often fail on these units or was this obviously damaged by someones hammer?

Either way, I have to tear into it, its just my nature.... I'll check in again.

Hey Granprix...If i'm not mistaken you have to post some many times before you are allowed access to that section of the forum. You can probably read up on the rules section and see if that is it or not. But welcome to the board!
