Default 1984 Marathon 2pg wont start after new (used)starter...

So the cart was running and starting fine, but the head wasn't bolted properly to the engine mount, and the engine banged around in there and broke some stuff. I broke the forward mounting tab on the starter/gen and broke the bracket that mounts the starter/gen. I pulled the motor and put the proper head bolts in and mounted everything back up. After assembly, the cart started and drove great for about 20 ft. Then I let off the gas, and when I pushed on the pedal again, nothing. It wont turn over or make even the slightest noise. The solenoid is obviously not getting juice, and I have tested the black wire that comes from the accelerator switch for juice, and it has nothing. I am assuming this would be easy to test, but when I supply juice manually to the little black wire going into the solenoid, nothing happens. To top it off, I am having trouble finding that part. Is it the same as the micro switch, because it doesnt look like that at all. This has a small push button that a carriage style bolt presses against when the pedal is depressed, and two bolts that mount it to the accelerator assembly. I just want this cart to run so I can sell it and fund my G22. Thanks for any advise you can give.

Oh I forgot to add that I bought a replacement starter/gen from parts for carts .com (not sure if they sponsor. Sorry if not) so is it possible that this new starter/gen is bad? Problem is, it doesnt have power coming into it, so hard to imagine that it is bad. The fuse is fine also. Thanks.

Well, I found the problem. The wire coming from the key switch (hot when the key is on) broke off near the accelerator switch. When I touch the broken wire to the lead on the solenoid, it turns over. Does anyone have any reason for or against setting up a cart to idle like a car? I was thinking about adjusting the throttle so it will start and just putting in a push button on this wire to fire it up.

....sit tight, there are plenty of folks who've done that who might chime-in (or do a search).
