Default 85 Ezgo gas

I just got a ezgo gas cart, the po said that it needs a new starter/generator. I did a bench test on it by connecting F1 and A1 and F2 A2 and it turned over. I put it back in the cart and I get nothing, but the solenoid just clicks. I have 12 volts going to the starter/generator when push the pedal down. Where is my problem at?

Check your grounds, especially the battery to f/r switch. Be sure youu have 12V on F2 when you push the pedal. If no luck there , you need to clean contacts in the F/R switch. On my 86 , i had to tighten the hex nut on back of f/r sw. and then it started. Good Luck.

I checked all the wiring, and added a ground from the solenoid to the frame. I will work on the F/R switch and see what I come up with. I will let you know.

Went though the wiring on F/R switch, and cleaned all the contacts on F/R switch plate and I still get the solenoid clicking. What would it be?

Your solenoid should not click on and off, just click once. jumper across large terminals on solenoid ,cart should crank, if not you may have a bad solenoid. This has to be a continous duty solenoid, not like a auto one. you should have a solid 12V on the 2 small terminals of solenoid when pedal is depressed. When you had s/g on bench, did you check brushes?

What I meant by the solenoid clicks, when I press the pedal back and fourth. Each time is just one click. I have jumped across the solenoid to check the starter and I get nothing. I did check the brushes and they did seem fine. I just checked the two small terminals on the solenoid, I have 12 volts on the right one, and nothing on the other one going to ground. So does that mean I have a bad solenoid?

If you press the pedal and get 12v at the starter/gen,then you have a starter/gen issue,as long as all of your grounds are good at the battery, engine, and frame.

Are you suppose to have 12 volts at the starter/generator? Or aren't you not to have 12 volts at the starter/generator? Bench tested and jumped in the cart and I got it to go in reverse.

You should have almost the same voltage(figure in a few tenths for voltage drop in cables),at the battery, the solenoid, and the starter. If the battery is low,it will drive you nuts!
