1995 ezgo fuel problems
I have a '95 EZGO gas golf cart with a Robin EH29C engine. Every year after Winter, it gets harder and harder to start. It will start if I spray starter fluid in the carb. It will also start and run, if I prime the fuel line connecting the fuel pump to the carb, but only runs until the fuel in the line runs out. I have replaced all 3 lines that connect to the fuel pump (gas tank to fuel pump...fuel pump to car...fuel pump to engine). Compression on both cylinders are about 180. After replacing the fuel filter, I primed the fuel line connecting the fuel pump to the carb again, then connected it. It started right up and even sounded soother and ran better. But once again, it only ran until the gas emptied out of the fuel line connecting the fuel pump to the carb again. Now when I tried priming that fuel line again, it wouldn't start, but would start if I sprayed starter fluid into the carb.
I checked the filler tube inside the tank and it was still attached, the fuel filter and the line from it to the tank and both were dry. So, I bypassed the filter and put the line right into the tank, primed the line from the fuel pump to the carb again and hooked it back up. As I tried starting it again, I noticed fuel slowly moving with large (about 2" long) air bubbles in both fuel lines, but the cart never started. Does anybody have any thoughts? |

Re: 1995 ezgo fuel problems
fuel pump is bad? if youre priming it and it still wont pull gass then my first guess is that the pump is bad. or there is a problem somewhere with hose coming from the motor case to the fuel pump (if im not mistaken the pump is operated by suction from that line). so perhaps there isnt any suction in that line?
my 94 medalist was actually blowing gas out of the front of the carb instead of sucking it in towards the motor/plugs, therefore not running. i think it was partly because the valves needed re-adjusted but the big issue was the timing was way off because the belt jumped. i have no idea if any of these are your issues but perhaps a place to start? hopefully someone with more experience will chime in. |

Re: 1995 ezgo fuel problems
I had one once that the pickup tube in the tank was coming loose at the fitting and sucking air, looked like they were just glued in the fitting...
just a thought. |

I think you need a fuel pump

Sorry guys, had some typos.

Re: 1995 ezgo fuel problems
like me, you got "one of those" problems. maybe time to think outside the box. first off, i don't know squat about golf cart engines and a bit about 2 cycles in general (i can, however, do a major overhaul on a detroit diesel 2 cycle).
everything you have done so far is absolutely correct in my opinion, and i would have done the same. now, what drives the fuel pump? a cam? could whatever drives the pump be so worn it isn't giving enough "stroke" to the pump to provide enough suction? i dunno, but i remember g.m. once made a batch of bad cams in the 70's and i've pulled more than one out with a perfectly round what used to be a lobe. lots of electric pumps sold in those days. you might try to pressurize the system with an old tank sprayer with some gas in in to see if the thing will run like that. hey............... fuel injected????? i would run just a very little positive pressure. another idea would be an electric fuel pump to try it out, but i dunno about pressure. a mikuni ain't much of a carb.. |

Re: 1995 ezgo fuel problems
Check that the impulse fitting at the engine isn't plugged and that oil isn't getting into that line preventing impulse to the fuel pump. You've checked everything else it has to be an impulse problem. Remove and clean the crankcase vent system, if it is plugged it will also prevent impulse to the pump.
