Default 2004 Gas EZ Go throttle question?

Hello everyone! Due to all the great info. I've read so far on this site, I decided to join. I just bought a 2004 EZ GO TXT gas cart. Lifted, wheels, etc. Love it! My question, the throttle is annoying me. When I got it, my brother adjusted the throttle cable in the rear to give it more response and a touch quicker. After that, it ran great, fast, but backfired a lot when letting off the gas. Also smelled really rich. After reading on here, I see that the throttle plate in the carb may not be closing all the way. I adjusted the cable, plate closed, now the backfiring quit, but you have to push the pedal almost 1/2 way down to move and it starts to go, then hesitates, then takes off. Can I adjust the cable in the rear where I want it, then is there an adjustment on the carb to close up that plate? May be a dumb question, but I'm learning. Can't find a happy/medium in my adjustments. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Your gonna have to adjust the cables back to stock. Why not just tighten the governor spring till you get what you need. Or get a shorter belt

You need to adjust the cable that goes to the rearend/governor, clockwise on the nuts to get the throttle to work closer to the top of the peddle.

Then if the throttle plate don't close all the way, pop off the little linkage at the carburetor and adjust a little longer, so it does close.

Thanks for the response. This linkage that you are talking about, is it under the metal plate that is riveted on over top of the carb? Because I don't see anything connected to the visible side of of the carb.

Sorry CT, I'm familiar with my 2000 and 2001 I have. I just went and looked at an 05 that I just bought and it's a whole different deal. Must have changed with the MCI thing, I don't even see linkage going from the governor to the carburetor on it and it's probably like yours.

Hope someone can help.
