driven clutch
2000 ez-go workhorse, eh35c eng, lifted
used by a 70 yr old to cruise the neighborhood my question is should i be able to slip the driven clutch(differental clutch) off the shaft without the aid of a puller.i can do so and wonder if this is normal. so far it has broken 2 retaining bolts off in the shaft and i am trying to find out why. thanks for any help anyone can give me. |

Re: driven clutch
I am far from an expert on this, but I would think the answer is a def. NO
Does the shaft have a key way in it? |

Re: driven clutch
no key way splines. the clutch seems to be farily tight but i can slide it right off
also i broke two bolts off in the shaft, not tightening or loosening them, they break while i am riding. i have been lucky drilling them out so far but i am pushing my luck. |

Re: driven clutch
No puller need use a piece of wood and don't get to rough beating it off a little WD40 or blaster on the shaft may help. Good Luck

Re: driven clutch
I have a 1997 TXT that had a bolt break off in the shaft either before I got it or within the first week I had it and the clutch came off one day as I was driving down the driveway. The driven clutch comes off of the splined shaft fairly easily (the other clutch (drive clutch) usually has to be taken off with a special tool) and the bolt probably breaks due to a torque that shears it off, since it is a fairly small diameter bolt if it was not tight enough to keep the clutch tight against the shaft the small movement might break the bolt. I was able to get the broken bolt out with the welded nut trick and it was not rusted or in the shaft very tight. I tightened the bolt fairly tight when I replaced it and 3 weeks later still no problem. I think any clutch that has to be driven off the splined shaft is probably rusted or corroded and normal is for the clutch to come off easily or with just a little help.

Re: driven clutch
Do you have the pilot washer on the bolt? It keeps the bolt centered to prevent breakage. Also the ramp buttons in the clutch may be worn down to the retaining screws causing the inner sheave to chatter and cause bolt breakage.
