Default hole in gas tank how to fix?

1989 ezgo gas 3pg lifted, camoed.

Cart runs fine now but I somehow got a hole in the fuel tank. One of my friends had a bright idea to use hot glue. I did try that not reaizing that hot glue isn't just melted plastic and the gas ate through the glue. I now have water weld epoxy on it and it is still seeping. Have any of you fixed a gas tank hole in plastic and made it hold?

I have heard of people taking a similar plastic and a heat source and pretty much welding the two. I haven't tried it because I can see myself knocking a bigger hole in the tank. Mine has about a 1/4 inch one now where I was drilling rivets out. Thought it was a rivet but nope, side of the tank.. I put a stainless screw with a rubber/steel washer in it and it has been holding for about a year now.

I'm not a glue guy but I have this in my tool box, it is very good and instant. I would rough up the area for tooth.

I have used a soldering iron/gun and melted a piece of the same meteral into a hole in the tank. Basicly plastic welding.
They do make a kit to plastic weld,http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&key...l_1a9i37xs1j_e but some meterials are not compatable with each other.
Once you find one that will melt into the other your all set.
I have found old weed trimmer plastic tanks are compatable with the golf cart tanks and had success melting in a patch.

If the hole is on a flat area you can get a rubber bolted expanding plug and they do come in smaller size. You would have to drill a nice hole to fit size then insert rubber plug with nut outside and tighten. rubber will expand to seal hole.

Red, you are a genius, I now know how to fix mine correctly. I have some rubber nuts that will do the ticket. Look like these http://www.shopezgo.com/products/Rub...-%2540p10.html

I will try to weld it with the weed trimmer string dewzer. This hole is more like a crack. I think when I took it to the mountains I must have hit the tank with a log or rock.

Hi guys,.well I drilled a hole in my tank ,installing chrome rocker panels....and top it off I just filled tank...gas all over garage..I used paint trays, and anything else to catch the fuel.....anyways...what I used to seal tank is same plastic as the tank ..plastic weld...I heated a screw driver tip and melted plastic into the tank....same plastic is found on laundry detergent jugs....look at bottom it should read HDPE 2.. that's the same plastic as gas tank....just cut a 1/8 strip and sand n prep tank where crack/hole is....heat up screwdriver or any flat tool...melt a bit of tank and strip together and smooth out...resand and repeat....it willl last for ever......

I once patched a hole in an oil pan with a two part epoxy fuel tank repair kit bought at my local auto parts store, worked GREAT,

don't know if this is the one but just saying...
