Igniter ?
This is a very helpful site, but i havent been able to find what i think Im looking for. I have a 1989 marathon. 2-stroke. It will start up fine the first time. It will run normal for maybe 20 seconds then stall. Wait 10 seconds it will restart then stall within a couple seconds and continue like that. I was thinking it may be the igniter. I allready checked the fuel pump and cleaned the carberator. The spark plug is new and it is not wet when i pull it. If anyone can help I would really apreciate it.

Re: Igniter ?
Most time when the igniter fails they don't do anything, no spark, no nothing.
Coils will act like you desribe, next time it quits check and see if you have spark |

Re: Igniter ?
I just put a new coil on. I am getting good spark. Just tried an igniter too. It just dies like i turned off the gas. Thanks though I'll keep trying.

Re: Igniter ?
if your plug is dry i would head towards the carb........its lacking fuel......have you tried choking it when it starts dieing.........do so and see if will run longer than without choking it.................................

Re: Igniter ?
I did clean the carb a couple of times. I gave up yesterday and took it to a shop. The guy said the main ground wire going to the frame was almost broke through and it fried the igniter. I read here somewere there is a way of using a truck coil instead of buying the expensive igniter so i will look for that. Thanks for the help.

Re: Igniter ?
It turned out to have a bad ground wire . The one that goes to the frame. That fried the igniter.
