OK so I fired up my crystal ball and it predicted that you have broken the ground strap from the common ground to the engine block. Now the engine is trying to find a ground through the choke cable which is causing any intermittent connection to spark.

Soooooo,I checked the following;main ground strap, ground from f-n-r lever, ground from solenoid, ground from voltage reg.All are in good shape and well connected. The new s/g is wired correctly, anyplace else I can check?By the way the chocke is not hooked-up or touching the carb.I have a volt meter but the only thing I know how to do with it is check battery voltage.I should mention here if you haven't read my pulley post, that the new s/g is for a club car and ez-go,seems like they are the same thing as the a1 goe's to a1,etc.etc.Thanks

When you try to start it does the engine run in reverse?. Have you tried to start it in reverse and forward? May be a wire switch on s/g that is not right with ground.

I started a new post, same problem new info, all the grounds are good, wires hooked up correctly, ste s/g runs fine but when I put the starter belt on and turn the key to start sparks come from the intake area of the carb.the choke cable is not hooked up so its not that.i bought a new s/g that is supposed to work for club car and ez go,could that make a difference and if so do I need to add an extra ground.i don't want to take the exaust on and off a bunch more times.any and all suggestions are welcome.

I say your ground is bad. I would remove the ground and clean it all up. For a quick check take jumper cable and connect one end real good on engine and other end on battery neg.

Thumbs up Re: ever hear this one????????

Hello, first of all thanks to all for the input. The sparking carberator problem tur ned out to be the F1 lead on the s/g touching the frame(I think!),so I cut a thick piece of rubber to insulate the lead.I took all of the ground connections off and went - battery to frame, then engine block to frame in a separate spot and no more sparks.I fired it up and a weird thing happened,my volt meter read 180 v. and started screaming,I thought it might be my meter but when I used a different meter the same thing happened.I read 12.5v. with the cart off,and CRAZYv's. when the rpm.'s are up.I don't want to burn anything up so any input on this would be welcome.I'll wait for replies before I start making the buggie look respectable,Thanks again,Panama Guy

I would first reconnect the grounds from the battery with wire that splits the ground before it gets to engine. One to frame and one to ground. May be asking much for ground to follow through the engine block to frame but that is just my thought and what I would do. Does the unit have a functioning voltage regulator and wired properly?
