What shifts?axel or clutch
I just built a 97 ez-go with a Honda 13 hp gx 390. It runs great Im trying to get all the bugs worked out. I have a comet 780 clutch, Today I was next to my shop and was trying the cart out on a huge hill it almost made it to the top when the tire started spinning. Rolled it back down and it wouldent shift out it was stuck in low gear and was running about 4500 rpms and about 15 mph (usually it would be closer to 25mph) after limping back towards the shop it finally shifted and started to work fine. Just trying to figure out what the problem was my clutch or rearend.

Re: What shifts?axel or clutch
there is no "shifting" in the rear. It has to be in the clutch setup.

Re: What shifts?axel or clutch
Take the seat off and drive it. I would think your driven clutch is sticking closed and not opening giving u a higher gear.

Re: What shifts?axel or clutch
I guess my clutch must not be engaging smoothly. At certain rpms it feels like it shifts like a a transmission. At lower rpms It feels like it down shifts also. I guess its getting hung up somehow. Thanks for the replies

Re: What shifts?axel or clutch
I think there is ramps in your driven clutch those would make it not open and close smoothly they could be hanging up.

Re: What shifts?axel or clutch
exactly. they are avail separately, BUT usually by the time they get to this point they have worn so far down it has destroyed the ramp part of the clutch assy

Re: What shifts?axel or clutch
So I probably need a hole clutch? is there an upgrade for it or should I just buy the same as factory?

Re: What shifts?axel or clutch
I agree likely the secondary clutch (on the trans). It has torque sensing ramps and spring in it, if the ramps get worn out it will not shift right. You could take it off and see if you can clean and lube it but it may be toast. Only the center shaft gets a little lube don't let it get on the belt whatever you do, so you don't use much.
