I prefer loading it from the bottom. I just like installing the piston on the rod without the jug in the way. I have not had any problems squeezing the rings with my fingers to collapse them while loading the piston into the jug. You should not need a ring compressor if the rings are in the grooves and on the pins correctly. However I know others like loading it from the top.
Just my opinion though.

I load the piston in the jug from the bottom and also compress the rings with my fingers then place the piston and jug over the rod. Don't forget the hole in the piston goes toward the carb and the spacers on bot sides of the rod bearing. Lube everything with a bit of 2 cycle oil. The spacers can be held in place with a bit of vasoline while installing the pin and clips. Mix fuel at 40:1 for the first tank then 128:1 after break in.

What they ^^^ said and don't forget that the rings are unidirectional, they need to be fitted with the small R facing upwards.

Sorry Lou, I guess I have gone from being a poster to becoming a lurker. I need to get another project cart so I have something to get fired up over.
