Default Central Texas help, throttle help

I have a 1989 ezgo gxt 800 truck with 2 stroke gas motor. I've rebuilt the motor and have good spark but it doesn't seem to want to run. I believe it has something to do with my throttle cable. It looks to me me that near the end where it hooks to the plate it has a break in the metal sleeve. I took it to a local shop and they were no help. I'm attaching a picture and welcome any help or advice. Also I live in between Austin, Texas and San Antonio if anyone lives anywhere near me would be willing to take a look at it I would greatly appreciate it.

The shiny silver looking elbow in the top right of your picture? That's just a guide for the cable, and unless it is grabbing on the cable shouldn't be any real reason for the engine to not run (it's not a fuel or vacuum line).

How's the compression? Is the carb clean?

Thanks for the reply. I was just concerned about the cable because of the gap looking different than what a new one looks like in a catalog. Everything else seems to check out.

It looks like the choke cable is not connected to the choke butterfly. You must be premixing gas and oil since some of that linkage is missing. Move the throttle linkage from the outer ball to the inner ball. That's how my 89 is set up. Good luck.
