Towing a mower
I have a 2006 gas TXT with a stock engine. The cart's only modifications are a few inches of lift to accommodate off road style tires, a tow hitch and a brush guard.
I am considering a tow behind mower like this http://www.mowersdirect.com/Images/S...4BS/i9759.html Mostly I am concerned about the cart possibly overheating while working this hard at such slow speeds. I have looked at previous posts where this was advised against. I guess I am asking if this is true of all carts because of gearing, or if some models handle it and some not. Re: Towing a mower
Gas cart should pull that fine. It is just a trailer to it. Now if you are going to mow lots of hills it will wear belts faster and may strain it a little but still should be ok

Re: Towing a mower
My land is flat. The mower probably weighs about 350 lbs. but in previous threads about other carts doing this there seemed to be concerns about the gearing of carts and I am concerned about overheating.

Re: Towing a mower
Gas cart should be just fine pulling that on level ground. Unless you let the grass grow to 6 feet before you cut..

Re: Towing a mower
pulling it will be no issue.
its the overheating I would be concerned about. how long will it take you to do it? you have to remember these carts are designed to run 5 min or less on a golf course going from hole to hole. |

Re: Towing a mower
Look for an add on temp sensor to get some readings before adding the mower. That way you know just what it's doing.

Re: Towing a mower
I'm not sure if temp will be an issue but going slow enough might put some extra wear and tear on the starter generator.

Re: Towing a mower
Theres a surefire way to find out. Just go for it, add a little extra 2 stroke oil in with your gas and let her rip. If it overheats and blows the top end, big whoop its like $150-$200 for a rebuild kit.

Re: Towing a mower
You could also get one or two of those cheap 12 volt fans and mount it in the engine compartment blowing on the engine for extra air movement.
It wouldn't be too hard to wire in a toggle switch so you can only turn it on when you need it. -Scott H. |
