87 ezgo 244cc robbin
So I recently purchased my 87 ezgo. I am in need of help. The engine rolls over in both forward and reverse. The fuel pump pumps fuel, I have cleaned the carburetor multiple times and I am getting spark. I bought a compression tester and have 115 psi. Will backfire through exhaust when I put mixed gas in cylinder but nothing when sprayed in carburetor. The bowl is filling up but my plug isn't getting wet. Any suggestions? Thank you all in advance.

Re: 87 ezgo 244cc robbin
I recently made a really long post about my 87 issues. At one point I blew a crankshaft seal completely out of the case, but a compression test still showed good compression. That's because it only reads the top side of the piston.
You need to have a good seal on the bottom side of the piston too. That's how gas is sucked in. On the up stroke fuel is sucked in through a hole in the side of the piston. It travels under the piston into the crankcase. It lubricates the bearings, and then on the down stroke is forced through another opening that ports it to the top side of the piston. If your seals are bad, none of that works. |

Re: 87 ezgo 244cc robbin
Could the reeds possibly be bad? If so how could I tell? With gas sprayed in the cylinder head I just feel like it should run off that gas until it burns. I have had lots of other 2stroke toys and anytime I've sprayed carb clean or gas in head they will run til its burned off. Could it be anything electrical? As far as crank seals go, am I just stuck pulling the envine and taking it apart to check? Thanks for your reply. I read your post a while back about that actually and I was just hoping that isn't my problem as well. Lol

Also, was your fuel pump working with the blown seal? Because that runs off crankcase pressure as well doesn't it?

Failed seals are way more common than a bad reed but not to say it has not happened. I would put my money on failed seals.

Re: 87 ezgo 244cc robbin
Let's see......it is pumping fuel. If the flow is strong, then it seems that the bottom end has compression. Would it be a good idea to disconnect the muffler from the head about 1/2 inch to determine if it runs. If it does, seems as though it is probably a plugged muffler. If it doesn't, seems as though it points to the seals as being the problem.

If the seals were shot, wouldn't that mean the fuel pump would not work correctly? Reed valve then?

When the lower diaphragm was ripped, the pump shot a strong stream. It was also shooting it directly into the crankcase flooding everything. Is the hole plugged behind your carburetor where the oil is injected into the intake. If you are sucking air there, it won't pull fuel from the carburetor. |

No. The whole is not plugged where the injection is. So I will do that. I took muffler off and it wasn't that, I forgot to mention that before. So I guess I plug the injection hole and ill let you all know. Thanks again. I shouldve known better to cap that fitting when I un hooked the oil line.

No. The whole is not plugged where the injection is. So I did that still nothing. I took muffler off and it wasn't that, I forgot to mention that before. I believe I have bigger issues now, it was locking up while rolling. Over then it would roll over then stop then roll over now it won't roll over. I am about to the point of just pulling engine anyways. Supposedly the cart has sat for a while before I bought it and if I have to pull engine I would just assume rebuild. Any modifications I can d to get more power while I'm at it? Too bad these cart don't have a transmission so an engine swap would allow me to have reverse
