new guy -w- new rig
I'm new here and I just picked up an '01 TXT that I plan to lift to take the family off road.
One quick question, why is it only 9hp out of 300cc? (295) There has to be a way to squeeze more grunt out of these things. Any suggestions? |

Install a shorter belt for more lower end torque and with larger tires and tweaking the governor you should get 18/20 MPH, which is plenty fast for a ezgo cart that doesn't have an independent long travel lift, anymore than that and it isn't safe, especially off road. (Just my opinion)

Re: new guy -w- new rig
Yeah the engines are detuned, makes them last longer. A fairly important fact if your running a fleet of them on a golf course.
You can get cams, exhaust, ect, for them. bore them out, probably double the hp if you have the money. The 350's are easier to hop up and a direct replacement for the 295. The problem you run into is the rev limiter will only let the engine spin so fast. Doesn't matter how much hp you have, you'll still only go so fast without a gearing change. That just adds to the overall cost if you do it. In my opinion you'd be better off using a different engine that will tach higher given the cost of modding the Robins up. |

I'm not after overall speed but I would like more power for climbing hills and turning larger tires. I definitely agree that there is such a thing as too fast in a golf cart. Is there a part number for the shorter belt and what is involved in changing it? Also can you be more specific on "tweaking" the governer?

You will see a spring and nut on top the rearend, tighten the nut down a bit, sometimes they have a little lead/wire seal on them from the factory (voids warranty if broken) that you have to remove, if someone hasn't already.
To be honest I would first install the lift and taller tires, thats going to give you more speed, then if you think you need a few more MPH mess with the governor. As far as the shorter belt read ruredy's post here.. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-e...en-clutch.html |
