How do I shorten the steering column?
Hi, I have a 91 marathon. With roof removed and custom windshield, and the steering wheel now seems too high for the buggy.
Any ideas how to shorten it 3-4inchs?? Cheers |

Re: How do I shorten the steering column?
The proper way is to cut the inner shaft in the center, remove the amount you want, then slide a sleeve over the shaft, make sure its at least 3" long.Grind a bevel on the shaft ends,Butt-weld the shaft, grind it smooth, then slide the sleeve over the joint centered.Weld the ends of the sleeve. This should not be done by an inexperienced welder,as the weld could fail, causing steering failure. To shorten the cover, just cut to new length and reassemble. Hope this helps.
