Default doing a compression check

i just picked up a 1989 ez go golf cart. it's the 2-stroke with the 244cc robin motor if i recall correctly. i was wanting to check the compression to see what state the motor is in so today i went ahead and yanked the spark plug to see what it had. i cranked it for about 10 seconds and got approx. 125lbs of compression, but it instantly dropped to nearly 0. is this normal or should that number hold? the cart runs and drives, but i know with cars/trucks if you simply pull the plug and slide the tester in those numbers should not move. is the same for a 2-stroke? any input?

the stem in the gauge is stuck, or it does not have one! you should be good with the 125 LBS

looks like i was tightening the gauge in too tight (i used my hands--no tools) and it was leaking from the O-Ring. now i get my 125 lbs and it holds! so i guess it's safe to say i have a good engine thanks guys.
