New 28 Degree Clutch and Belt question
93 marathon 4 cycle 295 robin
Fixed some oil leaks and such, also had to replace driven clutch it was beyond ruined. Went ahead and got the 28 degree version when I got a replacement. Figured it was worth the little extra. The kit also came with a new belt. My question is, why is the new belt even bigger than my stock worn belt? When I hold them on top of one another, the new one is obviously bigger. I can almost slide it on the clutches with no effort. Is this going to cause an issue or are these 28 degree clutches supposed to have bigger belts to account for the higher torque of the clutch. Any info would be great. Maybe I should just use my stock belt? Thanks guys |

Anyone know anything about these 28 degree kits? Finally got my cart mechanically sound and put back together, did a short test run today and it didn't seem to have the umph it did with my old worn out noisy clutch, wondering if my belt is slipping and if so I don't want to ruin the brand new thing, any help would be awesome, thanks

Once you get everything squared away keep us updated, I want to go with a 28 degree clutch but don't know if it's really worth the money. Thanks matt

These are the best pictures I could get to represent what's going on. As you can see, I can lift the belt off of the driven clutch with one finger, and actually fit my finger underneath the belt and simply slide it off. I think I was sent the wrong size but I have no idea... |

Re: New 28 Degree Clutch and Belt question
There doesn't seem to be any way that can be right you have to have about 3/4 to 1 inch to much belt there

Re: New 28 Degree Clutch and Belt question
The ebay seller I bought it from said its the correct kit from Jake's, for my 93 Marathon. I beg to differ. I measured both of the belts. Old one (worn) measured right at 41 inches. This new one was 42 3/8. Big difference. It pulled worse with that belt than it did my old belt and shot clutch that barely had ramps left. I sent it back and he is giving me an equivalent of a 40 3/4 inch belt. I am assuming that is the stock size should be right?
Edit: I will say the 28 degree clutch with my old belt on, seems to have a lot more go than the stock clutch, but my stock clutch was GONE. But it takes off quicker, without having to rev it up, and climbs fine. Havent checked top end yet. |
