Default Dual fuel filters in 84 marathon needed?

Hi All, I noticed there is a larger primary fuel filter going into the fuel pump and a smaller one coming out. I don't see a reason. Can I just remove the smaller one?

No reason to have the one between pump and carb. Take it out. Won't be a problem.
