Steering rod vs. front springs.....
So I noticed today, apparently it been going on for a while. But my springs are under my tie rod, and they are rubbing. It's rubbed a flat spot on my tie rods. When I bought it, it was already lifted. So I'm kinda stumped on what to do about it. I'll add pics shortly.
Do y'all think my shock have just wore out to the point of it resting on there? |

Re: Steering rod vs. front springs.....
The shocks don't hold the cart up,all they do is smooth the bumps, eliminating bouncing.Either the springs are tired, damaged,or the kit may be wrong.Alot of people flip the steering over to the top of the spindle for more clearance.A few pics would help figure it out.Hope this helps.

Re: Steering rod vs. front springs.....
Likely a worn out spring bushing or king pin bushing. Should be a fairly easy fix. Just rebush the spring eyes or your king pins. Will watch for the pictures and that will help narrow it down.

No eyes on the Ezgo springs, and not really likely to be a king-pin issue, they are likely loose, but they don't ususally cause the tie-rod to rub.

Re: Steering rod vs. front springs.....
Matt, if I am looking at your pic correctly, your springs are on the top of the axle. If so, that is your problem. A lot of guys took the springs from the bottom of the axle and mounted them on top for a cheap easy lift. The problem is now the springs almost always hits the tie rods. The weaker the spring gets, the more it hits the tie rod. You can fix it by putting the springs back under the axle and make up the difference in the lift by putting blocks at the rear of the springs. I included a couple of pics. One is of the front springs were they should be on the bottom of the axle. The other is of a block inserted at the back of the front spring.

Re: Steering rod vs. front springs.....
It looks like the tie-rod is on top of the spindle. That will cause it to rub.The springs may be bent as well, which will bring them closer to the tie-rod.From the factory, the tie-rod is under the steering-arms if I remember correctly, but could be flipped to gain clearance, you can flip it under, that should gain the clearance you need. For the spring location,It depends on the year,Pre-88'? they were mounted on top, after the change they put them underneath the axle.Hope this helps.

Re: Steering rod vs. front springs.....
Is the lift a jakes? From what I see it could be and from my own dealings the kit if installed as they have it, the tie rod is still left in origional location and can be damaged if hitting anything. The steering bracket that comes with that lift has a tappered hole for the steering rod to connect to BUT, as I did an many do, they re tapper the hole for mounting above the hole instead of below and the tie rod then is right behind the new axle..This being said, it looks as though the installer may have did a modification that took the entire tie rod above the springs and not below. Hard to see all involved with pics and I don't know the yr of your cart. Jake lift I purchased did not have a front tow tung however so did they install a spindle drop lift? But in that case why would they raise the tie rod??
Another thought from what I see...did they install the spings unpside down to raise the cart? Thus the tie rod may be now just above the spring ends. Just a few thoughts from what I am seeing. |
