Default 1983 ez go gas wont start..

Hello. I just bought a 1983 ez go gas cart. It worked when I tried it at the sellers house and after trailiering it home it worked for a 5 min drive around the yard.. then on the second drive. it stopped. I thought it was out of fuel and put more in and now it wont start at all :( it cranks but will not turn over. Hubby who is mechanic has tried all he knows but no familiar with golf cart engines, so any help you guys have would be great. Kids are sad and disappointed we finally got a cart but it doesn't work. thanks. camping season coming soon..

Spark, fuel pump working, and compression test, are some places to start.

Do a check of your grounds to engine and frame and the connections at battery. If you are not getting a good ground you will not get a turn over. Of course other things are in play. Do you hear a click when you hit the peddle? If not check battery for 12 volts. If 12 volts, then do a down line voltage check with key on to locate a brake in the voltage run. That is where I would start to locate the problem. Keep us informed.

Hello Gwen and welcome to the forum, herein you will find all the answers you need. Of course everyone has a solution and not all of them will be right but nevertheless here is my $0.02.

Did it really run out of fuel? If so the fuel pump does not self prime so it could be that is your only issue. Pull the line off the carburetor and crank the engine, you should see a large pulsating jet of fuel. A dribble or a trickle will not do it. If you do not then remove the fuel filler cap and wrap a shop rag around the hole to make a seal and blow into the tank until you see fuel coming out of the line. Reconnect the line and see if she starts. Let us know.

Ok pretty sure it was out of fuel. I blew into the tank and some gas coming out of the line. Not sure how much is a big spurs but about an inch in catch bottle. I took out battery and charged it. Cleaned terminals and put back in. Where do I make sure it's grounded at? I have read a lot on here about crank seals being the culprit. Where are they? My hubby says carb has a lot of play in it and it needs rebuilt / replaced? Does anyone have a manual or pics of this engine to give us guidance?? Thanks for all ur relies so far

If your carb has play in it then that is your problem. If the carb is loose then it is just sucking air around the carb and not getting fuel.

Ok my hubby said he thinks the fuel pump might not be working. Could it cause it not to turn over? Where can I get a carb rebuild kit??

Ok, I'm really confused.... you said it cranks but doesn't turn over... what does this mean? Does the starter turn the engine when you press the accelerator but the engine will not run? Or does the starter turn but not the engine? Or does nothing happen?
