Default Help me troubleshoot this issue 295cc 97 medalist

So, got my clutch figured out. i drive around park at a buddies house 5 mins later i hit the pedal and nothing. Sigh go to push it on his truck and it turns over and starts up Le`sigh i drive it home.

go to get on it again and it wont turn over.

put it up on jack stands hit the pedal no joy. i push the clutch while hold the pedal and it fires up.

I think the starter generator is toast and or the voltage regulator, i dont think its charging the battery any my battery is getting low. I have a feeling if i fully charge the battery and try it wont have an issue.

that will be the test for tomorrow.

Anything you guys think i should give a try to verify 100%?

charge the battery then start it and see if the voltage on the battery goes up to 14. If it doesnt charge at all you can ground the wire that goes from the starter to the voltage regulator. Just ground that wire and see if it starts to charge. It should be the small wire on the front of the starter.

Threw it up on the jack stands.

At rest battery voltage was 12.3

Got the cart Running. voltage at the battery was 14.6

Any other ideas?

It sounds like the generator needs brushes,or the armature has a dead spot.Test the solenoid with a meter or testlite and make sure you are getting the same voltage on the battery terminal and the starter terminal when the pedal is pressed. Also clean and check all grounds.Hope this helps.

going to go through the grounds tonight just to be sure. i checked last night i have the same voltage accross the Starter/gennie as i do at the battery and it comes right up when i hit the go button. Guess ill go ahead and order a set of brushes.

just as an additional troubleshooting step. If i just connect the +/- from the generator to the battery she should start spinning right up correct?
