Default Robin/fuji EC17DS

hi my name is hal and i'm kind of new to the golf carting world. i've become bored with go karts, atc's, and atv's so i bought my first cart. as for the cart itself im still trying to figure out exactly what year it is. i know its late 70's but i still can't make out the id plate cus the past owner painted over it. i do know it has a 2 stroke single cylinder robin/fuji engine model number EC17DS. its painted blue and i do know its a 175 cc engine. i'm looking for parts because its in need of a rebuild. problem is i'm not having an easy time finding parts for it. personally i think its a neat little engine and it fits my 3 wheel cart just fine so i'd love to rebuild it. so if anyone has any advice as to where i should start looking that would be great.

If its a late 70's its probably a 244cc motor (you hope)
i think the 175cc motor was 1975 and earlier?
I dont think you find many parts for the 175cc's.

try golfcarcatalog.com & lvssales.com,
they seem to have a good selection of old vintage carts

Good luck, Dew

well i did some research on it and i now know it was made before 1976. and i can tell you for sure that it is a 175cc engine because its marked on the side of the one guard plate. i took the engine apart and found a bit of luck, the head was redone the piston looks brand new and same with the rings. the only part i'm stuck on is the carb gaskets could use a little help and the electrical is in bad shape. i was wondering if that stuff might be a match from a 244cc because finding parts for that engine isn't hard at all

hal, you also can make many of your own gaskets,go to napa or any parts store and get the gasket material you need and make what you need,i have done this for 50 yrs. it may take a little practice but you get better with experience.

well i work at a carquest store/part time mechanic so if i have to make gaskets i will thats not really the prob, but if i could by them well it saves me some time, honestly the only thing wrong with the engine from what i found is the wiring is in bad shape from sitting 4 years without being run. i'm going to change wires and rewire everything up and see what happens. my main question is if this doesn't work are 244cc electrial components the same as a 175cc if i have to get something. btw thanks for all the info so far its really helped me a lot with the cart

From 1971 thru 1975, E-Z-GO used a 175cc, 2-cycle gas golf cart engine. Repair parts for this early engine are no longer available. The main bearings & crank seals can be replaced but we do not know what sizes are needed. Almost all of the OEM part numbers are obsolete.

Hey i have the same engine as you do my cart and everything is in excellent shape except for my piston has a crack in it... just wondering if you happened to run across some rebuild kits while in your hunt for answers or if you decided on doing something else with the engine like parting it out :)
