Default blown motor

New to the forum and I love all the info already, what I have is a pre mci engine on a ezgo cart 350cc from what I can tell. My problem is I threw a connecting rod on the driver side cylinder. I plan on buying a new motor seeing I don't have much into this cart. I see talk of a big block on here, I plan on keeping the cart for a while and since im putting money into it I want to do it right. Where can I find the best deal on reman motors or what is the advantages of the big block?

Just to add a few opinions, the BB's are pretty cool however You *do* make some sacrifices in order to gain that extra power. Your cart will sound a lot more like a lawnmower than a cart, add a performance exhaust, etc and it will sound a lot like a Go-Kart or worse. Many BB conversions do away with the "press the pedal and go" aspect, so your cart becomes more like a car with a key-start, etc (sounds minor but at least to *Me* it changes the whole dynamic of having a Golf Cart, might as well buy a Ute side-by-side) ... Golf carts were never designed from a "stopping" standpoint either, so adding all that weight, power, and speed generally means beefing up the brakes which becomes very spendy rather quickly (pinch discs are cheaper than hydraulic, but also have only a little more stopping power than the stock brakes). Also to think about, a stock BB develops very few RPM's over that of your stock engine, so while your power will dramatically increase, the top end improvements (IE Top Speed) doesn't increase as much unless You start messing with the rear end gearing, clutches, etc (all expensive) ...

Don't get me wrong - BB carts are a BLAST if that's what You're into, I've just seen quite a few guys spend a ton of money to totally change their carts only to end up disappointed in the long run because the entire "Golf Cart" dynamic has been lost. Sort of like throwing a Blown 427 in the daily driver - it's fun as heck to grab the throttle and hold on for awhile, but eventually it'll be time to either put it back the way it was or get another more practical/useful/economical daily driver to get to and from work, etc ...

That all said (and again, NOT to deter or detract from the upsides of BB carts) I just had a company called CT Rebuilds send me one of their fully remanufactured 375cc motors to replace a 350 with a locked up motor in my 2006 Workhorse, cost me $675 plus $43 shipping (shipping is less the closer You are to them, and they'll send You a stock remanufactured 350 for considerably less, I believe it was around $600-ish). I am *VERY* impressed with the attention to detail and workmanship they put into the motor, it runs like CRAZY and the turnaround time was literally 3 days to my door, counting the day I ordered.

Like KGSC said, do some real research before deciding which way to go - a warrantied, upsized rebuilt motor for around $700 to your door is a LOT less expensive (like half) of just the BB conversion parts alone, THEN You have to find a motor, etc and at that point, screaming past the $2 or even 3-4K mark happens rather quickly.

If Speed and power are your thing, for well under about $1200 You could go the whole "crazy" route with your cart using somewhat "stock-ish" components, I have a TXT with a 350cc/295 heads, Timing Advance, Cam, Bored and Polished Carb, Jetted and Custom Exhaust Can, 28 degree clutch, 6:1 speed gears, etc that will break a tire loose on blacktop as well as get 2 people to 40mph territory REAL quickly - and it still rides, drives, behaves, and acts like a Golf Cart - in fact, if it wasn't for the slightly different exhaust tone and the roll bar You'd never know it was a little ball of dynamite until You grab the pedal hard - it all depends on what You're looking for.

You can wire the motor in to the pedal start with a 5 pin relay if I go 440 or 460 I plan to. My cart is still gonna be a golf cart only but I want it to be able to run in the 24 -25 mph range, shouldn't be too hard with that 440 or 460 from Vegas Carts with a upgrade or two it will be in the 20 plus range in the hp department. the sound can be a problem but then again the gas ez-go's aren't all that quiet. Their Phone Number is 706-533-2698, I found them through another Forum member ... Hey Hugger, You *do* know a basically stock EZGO can run in the 25mph range very easily with only a few minor tweaks, right? I live at an old Ski Resort (no lack of severe hills here, LOL) and as to power even my old stock Marathon with a shorter belt and clutch spring would climb anything I aimed it at with 2 people, plus it ran 28mph all day on the flats - and that's with a 9hp motor ...

Take any stock TXT that runs well, add speed gears and a clutch spring/belt to compensate and You can run 30+ all day long and still climb anything You can get the traction to do so on - at well under $400. Go to a larger tire and add to that speed - You've saved enough money to buy another cart, yours stays well-behaved and quiet, the resale holds, and reliability isn't an issue.

To each their own, though :)
