EZGO Valve Seat Cutter
Hello, I'm new to this forum. Thanks for doing this!
I help out my neighbors with their mechanical needs on their golf carts. It seems that there is a lot of carts needing valves as they are past the adjustment stages. I have been taking the heads to a machine shop and they cut the valve seat and lap the valves. I see EZGO has a valve seat cutter that would probably save me some time running to the machine shop but the are over $300. Anyone know where I can get one at a good price or another way to accomplish this without a cutter? |

Re: EZGO Valve Seat Cutter
I have never recut the seats. If I have to replace the valves I just lap them in with one of the hand lappers. I have both the turn the crank & the plain stick with the suction cup. The plain stick usually works fine.
When I am done I pour some gas in the ports & if it doesn't leak past the valves I'am good to go. The valves seem to be very soft & the lip gets very sharp from wear after being used for awhile. The rocker arms also wear very fast & I dress them up on a belt sander. GeneB |

Re: EZGO Valve Seat Cutter
I have wondered if I needed to go beyond the lapping of the valves. I'll try that and see how it works. Thanks for the information.

Re: EZGO Valve Seat Cutter
i have about 400.00 in my setup, but it will do a lot of different heads. 300 for one cutter sounds high to me, when i do ez go heads i replace the valve guides so i need to use a seat cutter every time. |

Re: EZGO Valve Seat Cutter
I tried lapping the valves and then I replaced the springs and I still get a drip through the exhaust valves. I think I'd better find the machine shop operator and have him cut these seats. Sure wish I had a valve seat cutter. This running in circles makes this job much more time consuming.

Re: EZGO Valve Seat Cutter
I found a guy that will grind the seats and lap in the new valves for $20. Boy does that make a difference!

Re: EZGO Valve Seat Cutter
Use pattern dye on the seat and valve so you can see exactly where they mesh after the grinding Hand grind works good for me

Re: EZGO Valve Seat Cutter
Neway makes a kit for small engines. You shop Ebay? This is just one of them.
Make sure you check your seat angle. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Neway...Q5fCarQ5fParts |
