ezgo st 480 workhorse
My father in law just bought a st 480 workhorse. Starter turns, gets gas and has spark (did the ole screwdriver test) the motor won't start and run. It has to be in electric somewhere just not sure how all the starter engagement to motor running works. Great condition got it for 750 dollars any ideas

Try adjusting the valves.

Nope but same idea. Does the engine spin over ? or just the starter ? If it does spin over try shooting some carb cleaner to it while spinning, if it catches you have a fuel problem. If not check the plug to see if it wet. If yes, possibly fouled plug or no spark..

Re: ezgo st 480 workhorse
New plugs fresh gas thoroughly cleaned carb. Motor spins with starter just wont fire. What gives motor its spark. We did the plug wire and screwdriver on Valve cover and saw a spark. Put gas right in carb. No start. What is the igniter. Really starting to aggravate me. I can 99 percent of the time figure this c*** out

Re: ezgo st 480 workhorse
Could be a fouled plug. I have seen them spark with no compression but not in the cylinder

Re: ezgo st 480 workhorse
Some of the vanguards have a fuel solenoid on the carb. that need 12 volts to open. Even putting fuel directly into the carb. won't start them. If yours has one take it out and see if it moves while applying power, it is a small plunger that stops flow of fuel.

Re: ezgo st 480 workhorse
your vanguard has shorting diodes for killing motor when ignition key is turned off. They may be shorted, which reduces output of magnetos. Disconnect small wires at the 2 magnetos and try to start, if that works, your problem is the diode module.
