Default 99 txt project questions

I just picked up a 99 TXT w/the 2 cylinder engine. The story is the ignitor burned up about a year ago and it hasn't been touched since. The ignitor is out and, as you look at the wires on the end of it, the one on the left (next to the white wire) appears to have melted at the case. Before I spend $125 and ruin another ignitor, what do I need to check? A new voltage regulator and an extra used starter/generator were included so I'm OK there. The engine does turn over by hand.

Another thing I found is that the passenger side rear wheel will not turn. I pulled it off the trailer and replaced the tires/wheels on the passenger side (they were both flat). They were flat for a while in a low spot so I'm thinking the brake shoes/drum may be rusted tight. Any ideas on what to check?

Thanks for all your help.

Just make sure there are no bare spots in any of the wiring and it wouldn't hurt to find a wiring diagram on here to make sure everything is right, there should be one floating around somewhere, the brakes usually do seem to stick if they sit up a while.

Thanks guys. Good info to start with.

What would be considered acceptable compression on a 2 cylinder engine of this age?

OK - I checked for rubbed spots on the wires and found none and the wiring seems correct. Is there anything else I need to check before plugging in a new ignitor? I'm a little worried about just plugging it in. Do they normally just "die" or would there be a contributing factor/part that I need to check?

Thanks again,

Paul

yes, measure the resistance of your ignition coil, with wires disconnected,on the 2 small terminals, should read 3-4 ohms. Anything less of 3 ohms, could overheat ignitor.
