Belly pan (skid plate)
I have a 2007 gas powered golf cart. In order to change the oil and filter I have
found it difficult to get to the 3 bolts holding the filter because the belly plate leaves little room to maneuver a wrench. In addition, when I do manage to remove the filter and bolts it is impossible to place a container under the hole to catch the old oil because of the belly plate and the oil flows all over the plate. What a mess. My question is, can I remove the belly plate (4 bolts) because it appears this belly plate might be also holding up, or holding together, other parts of the unit. If I remove these bolts I am concerned the holes won't line up when I try and reassemble everything. |

The golf cart is an EZ-GO, gasoline, 2007, two seat, with small dump on rear.

Re: Belly pan (skid plate)
yes You can remove the plate, just be mindful of the routing path for the cables, etc and be sure and replace it with everything in its' place. There are bolts fore and aft on the engine that keep it intact in the cradle regardless of the plate being on or off, so as long as you only take the 4 bolts on the BOTTOM of the engine out to remove the plate you're OK.
PS: Realigning the plate *can* be fiddly, especially trying to hold it in place and start the bolts, etc - make sure you start all 4 before you tighten any of them :) |

Re: Belly pan (skid plate)
Question..... could you pull the drain plug off the crankcase cover and drain most of the oil, then remove the filter once the oil level is not over it? I know the book says to pull the filter and drain it that way.

Re: Belly pan (skid plate)
I usually just do it the messy way, LOL - gives me an excuse to play with the degreaser and pressure washer, get the cart all shined up, etc :)
