Default Good Buy? EZ Go ST Sport 2 2008

I'm looking to get my first cart. I ran across a 2008 EZ Go ST Sport 2 in great condition, garage kept, $3300. Does that sound like a good deal? Manual Dump Bed, Good tires, clean, it was used to keep up a 4 acre yard. Limbs and leaves. Your thoughts are appreciated.

If it's a full plastic body front and rear then that sounds a bit stiff as it's likely an ST Sport with an add-on dump bed, if it has the metal rear body with plastic fenders and the bolt-on frame section and factory molded dump box, then it's basically a lightweight MPT800 (designed for basic household/consumer use) and that's a better price provided it's clean. Look at the driven clutch and see if it has "28" or "36" on it - "28" is what You're looking for to do any real hauling. If it has 2-leaf rear springs, it's going to ride OK but the cargo capacity will suffer, the 3 or 4-leaf Spring packs will give You a bigger hauling and towing capacity but will ride like a truck....

If You're looking for something heavy-duty for hauling, towing, etc then keep your eyes open for a Workhorse or MPT1200, the MPT800 and the factory ST's with the dump bed are basically cosmetically-modified TXT's (not that that is a BAD thing - for most purposes they do just fine and the bonus is that most TXT parts are fully interchangeable as well as priced better when it comes time to start modding). The WH/MPT1200's have over a half-ton of factory-built Cargo Capacity, while the MPT800's and the ST's have a total capacity (Humans and Cargo) of 800lbs.

Figure adding a lift and tires will run You about $600 (low end, stamped rims, cheap tires, etc) to $1200 (high-end, long travel, Nice Rims, Tires, etc) ... Upgrading Your clutch, belt, etc to handle the larger tires, etc while retaining usefulness will run You another $120 or so either way - Resale around here on a nice, clean, lifted MPT800/ST is going to be around $3500-4k with nice rims and tires, etc (and at that price I do mean CLEAN) so factor that in.

Please see photo below. I'm using it 99% for hunting. I think a total capacity of 800lbs will be more than sufficient. Let me know which model you think it is. It looks as if it has already has a factory lift and quality suspension ad 20in tires.

That's the better of the ST's - basically it's the same cart as the Workhorse 800 ... What EZGO did with these is took a standard TXT frame and designed a longer bolt-on rear frame section to support the cargo box and distribute the load a bit more evenly. Having the factory lift and 20's makes it worth more than a standard MPT/ST, so especially with how clean it is, the price isn't out of line.

That said, You're going to like that cart - the factory lift is useful but yet reasonable, so handling and ride aren't so bad, even for a cargo machine (worst case is if You find it a bit too stiff, one of the leafs can be removed from the rear springs to soften it up a bit without compromising too much cargo capacity). Personally, I also really like the plastic dump boxes, most of the Workhorse/ST/MPT cargo boxes are noisy, rattly, etc but the plastic ones can easily be quieted down with some rubber or vinyl tubing and a pair of ATV hood hold-downs (about $15 total and WELL worth it to quiet things for hunting). The factory lights on these are also good quality (unlike many aftermarket kits) so You probably won't find the need to upgrade them - again, that's definitely a nice cart.

Here's a pic of a 2011 that I did a 6" lift and 23's on this summer - To give an idea (keep in mind this cart had less than 200 original hours on it when I scored it) it sold for $5500 after only about a week on CL ... Upgrades were pretty straightforward, Clutch, Lift, Tires, Springs (which your cart already has, if not to the extreme level of this one)

At $3300 You're definitely doing pretty well :)

Brew City Music, I appreciate your advice and knowledge. It drove well and was almost as clean in person as it was in the photos...so I bought it. Id like to avoid any major immediate purchases. I was thinking about adding a front rack, rear led red light strip and a gun rack. Do you if 22" tires would fit in those stock rims and not rub without me lifting the buggie? If not all 4 tires, maybe just the back two. I'd like to increase speed and get a more aggressive, off road tire. Do you think I'd increase speed and/or lose much torque with a larger tire? Also, any idea on if I adjust the governor would it affect motor function? I appreciate your help.

HTR, give us a pic of the front axle to see what you have. If it is the stock lift, 22s are no problem.

See photo. I'd like the added speed of larger tires. Please let me know if 22" tires on the current wheels will work without a lift. Also, do you think I will sacrifice a lot of torque?

That is the standard axle so 20 inch is about the best you will do with that setup. 22s will need probably a 4 inch lift or better.
