88 Marathon conversion?
Ok so the thread seams to be gone or I am computer eliterate in trying to find it.
So I understand a 4-stroke marathon rear end(ME29) is recommended to up grade our Marathon. This rear will bolt right into our older cart? Whats the cost of this type of conversion? If its going to cost us $1500 for a motor rebuild and install the $1500 would be better spent on the conversion. Cheers Don. |

Re: 88 Marathon conversion?
it can and has been done, you just need to have some fab skills and your probably looking at 1000 if done carefully maybe less if you get a deal on an engine and rear, your best bet could be to find a newer parts cart or depending on your location you could save a lot buying another cart and parting out what you dont need and lower your cost even further

Re: 88 Marathon conversion?
I'm confused - $1500 to rebuild the stock 2PG out of your 1988? That's crazy, a full top end kit is under $200, and a complete 100% kit is around $300 including a new crank, labor including R&R on the top end is 2hrs or less, maybe 4 on the complete rebuild tops.
To upgrade, You're looking at a rear end and fab work to mount it, shifter and linkage, new engine, mods to the engine cradle, electrical for the new motor, clutch for the new motor, and depending on if the new rear end has it or not, a new driven clutch (as well as other minor items such as intake, exhaust, belts, starter, etc) As of yet, nobody I'm aware of is making a conversion "Kit" for the Marathons like they do for the TXT's |
