Default Gas Gauge Leak?

This past weekend, we took our beast (ST350) to a charity event and helped shuttle people and supplies around.

It did great, but something I noticed after running around the rutted up fields: gas fumes.

When I lifted the seat expecting to find the gas cap loose, I saw gas coming from the gas gauge sending unit. It appears either the gasket between it and the tank has deteriorated or doesn't exist.

Does anyone else have this leaking issue after rustling around bumpy fields for a few hours?

According to the parts diagram, there is no gasket. I'm thinking of creating one out of gasket material..

sure its not a cracked fuel line or over tightened clamp? alot of people forget to check these and replace them when they do there yearly maintenance, and its a cheap replacement to do as well. just thinking outside the box some on this one.

All of the leak marks are directly from under the plate that the sender unit is mounted to. It's directly from all of the bouncing around in the fields last weekend.

Decent selection. I need to measure the diameter of the sending unit before ordering anything.

Thanks!

You'd think there would be an EZ GO gasket for this instead of trying to adapt a marine gasket to fit.

I have a parts break down listing for our unit and there's no reference to a gasket in the parts list. Surprising, but true.

Here is what you need. The problem is the price of the gasket is 3 dollars and shipping is over 10. Go figure that one out.

Fuel Sender Gasket
Model: 74701G01
Manufacturer: EZGO

Its the exact same gasket and the senders can be used also. Its just a universal sender.

I took the sending unit out/off the tank today. There is a gasket, but made out of cork.
The screws that hold everything together weren't that tight. So, I pulled everything apart, cleaned up the unit, created another gasket, and put it all back together. This time, I snugged down the screws so the gasket had a chance to do something. The gasket was still very flexible, but couldn't do the job as it was compressed down enough. Now it is.

Everything appears to be okay now. Gotta love simple fixes.

Thanks for everyone's feedback.
