I think if you look in the electrical section of this manual, you will find the steps to check the start and charge system.

It came out of the tech section of the EZGO gas section

Question Re: Starter/generator

There is hardly anything on the nest that is worth looking at for a 2002 work horse. I can't find hardly any diagrams worth coping.
Nothing is written on trouble shooting.
The solenoid is good. Getting 12.5 volts to F2 on starter. Starter will turn over every now and then. Is there a way to jump it to see if the ignition coil and ignitor are working. Somebody has done this before I'm sure.

Section L of that guide explains in great detail how to check the solenoid, starter, accelerator limit switch, brushes (which may in fact be what's wrong) etc. If the starter is not turning over then I do not think the problem is in the coil or ignitor. Neither is part of what makes the starter turn over. I realize it doesn't say "2002 workhorse" but the basic components and system is the same.

Thumbs up Re: Starter/generator

I'm leaning towards the S/G to. I have 12.5 volts on the starter cable. The solenoid is functional.

Trust me, it's likely a $12-15 set of brushes. If You're getting power to the starter and it intermittently turns over, here's a test - when it doesn't turn over, rotate the pulley about 1/4 turn and try again, if it does turn over then, brushes.

15 minutes and $15 bucks, tops

I've tried this. It didn't work.
Going to take it off and have the customer take it to his buddy and have it redone. That's what he wants.

Has the battery been load tested? Have you visually inspected the brushes? There are 4 and you will have to pull the s/g to get to the fourth cover.

Just finished pulling the S/G off. Plan to have the guy redo it. He says its the original S/G on it. 02 model. He has a family member who rebuilds start's and alternator's. I'm going to let him do it. Shouldn't be any trouble at all when I get it back...right! Lol...
