Default hello all

hello all,i have a 71 harley 3 wheel gas cart.ihave some questions about the fuel mixture,it says to use hd oil or 4o wt non detergent oil.it seems to run ok on the 40 wt oil, but it smokes alot.it also seem to put out some sort of residue ,that after driving i find tiny black or rust spots on my clothing.the cart did sit for several years prior to my getting it.so what does everybody think?

Welcome to the best forum on the net. These folks know how to fix your cart problems.

I have a 1976 HD cart and I use 1.5 oz 2 cycle oil I buy from Wal-Mart. The tag on the fuel port tells you to use 1 oz. Harley oil per gal. or in an emergency use 40 wt. non detergent motor oil. Still emergency should not be in need now. So to be safe (since no one knows what HD oil was) use 1.5 oz of quality 2 cycle oil per gallon and it should almost quit smoking and run better when the muffler burns the excess oil out!

Oh, by the way, do yourself a favor and buy yourself a service manual.

The 40 weight non det. is only to be used if 2 cyc oil isn't available. I had always been amazed that they even had that sticker on the carts. Run the 1.5 oz 2 stroke oil like tew says. 1oz per gal may get you around a golf course if your not hard on it, it got me to buy a new top end for the one I had.
