Introduction.......just got a 78 HD gas golf cart.
Good Morning Buggie World,
My name is Adam and I have finally acquired my dream golf cart. I'm a Harley rider with a 2003 Ultra Classic and an avid golfer that is about to become my career when I retire from the 23 years of Naval Service. I am currently working on my business degree in professional golf management. So what better way to show off at work when I drive my Harley to work and then ride my Harley golf cart during work. I did a quick overview of the cart and everything seems functional, but needs some TLC. It doesn't have a standard size gas tank and the air cleaner assembly is crap. Those both need to be replaced. My big question today is trying to understand how the governor operates. I see the governor arm but there isn't a wire hooked up to it. Does this mean that the governor has been disabled or is it now fully restricted. If anyone could explain the operation, I would greatly appreciate it. Just want to make sure that my eyes and brain are on the same page. Thanks for the help in advance. Adam |

Re: Introduction.......just got a 78 HD gas golf cart.
welcome to the madness Adam. while i cannot speak as a expert on hd carts,if the governor rod is disconnected on any small engine it could be trouble. it means your engine is no longer governed, and if you keep your foot in it too long something could blow. my suggestion is to get a factory shop manual for your cart and engine. perhaps someone in here has a pdf file you can download for free.pictures will be helpful as well as the model number and perhaps serial number. Thanks for the info Roger. Still surfing all the posts here and I've found some good info. I will dig deeper and I'm sure I'll be a little smarter when I'm done. Thanks again.

I have taken the governor off 99% of all HD and Columbia carts I have ever worked on or owned. I have two of my own now.
