Default Cushman 735 Sharknose

I am in the process of restoring a 735 sharknose. I have to rewire the engine which is a 18 hp omc. It has the twin coils and the wires that connect the two coils go from + to -. Is this correct or should they go from + to +? Also if anyone has a wiring diagram I would appreciate seeing it.
Thanks

The OMC engines use 2 coils that are wired in series. The jumper between them goes from + on one coil to - on the other coil. Then connect the points to the as yet unused - terminal and the ignition switch to the as yet unused + terminal.

Sorry, I have truckster wiring diagrams but nothing for golf carts.

Kevin,

If you need any motor parts I may be able to help. I have several parted out OMC motors around here. They are the 22 hp model, but most is identical to the 18 hp.

Thanks Charley
Everything seems to be there just no fire. Ill keep that in mind in case I do need to replace something. Hopefully after I figure the wiring out and replace it then I will get fire and then see if it is going to be a good runner.

For the motor wiring almost any electrical diagram for a Cushman that uses an OMC motor should be of help. This manual from the www.sillylittlecars.com website should give you enough information to get the motor wiring figured out, but the rest of the wiring will likely be very different in your cart. There is information about the motor in that manual as well. The OMC 18 and 22 hp motors are identical, except for the cylinders and the timer advance springs and fly weights. A one cylinder 9 hp OMC engine was also made for the Cushman motor scooters and for the most part, it is the same design as the 18 hp OMC motor.

Yup, those guys in San Francisco have quite a site (www.sillylittlecars.com). I'm glad you found it useful. I belong to that site as well, but I don't live anywhere near them. Unfortunately the website has almost been abandoned (last post in 2013), but their e-mail list is still very much alive. Anyone that's on the list can post a question or comment and it gets copied and sent to everyone else on the list. There's a flurry of activity about 2 times per month when someone asks a question, and I get not only the original poster's message, but everyone else's response. I can join in with a comment if I have something to add and everyone else will see it. It's just kind of a different way to have a forum. You can join this list by subscribing to it on the sillylittlecars website if you want to. After that you will receive every post that anyone makes to it.

I put an electric fuel pump on my 22hp omc and ran it direct to my carter model n carb. It runs fine but now has started to shoot fuel out the small hole just below the low speed adjustment valve. I talked to the engine vendor and he said not to use an electric fuel pump. I know some of you have used them without any problems. So does anyone know how to run the gas lines using a bypass and the mechanical pump?
Thanks
Kevin
