Default columbia parcar ignition module

1987 parcar will not spark, have checked everything and believe it is solid state ignition module. Would like to be sure, have seen price around $200. Also can't seem to find part, one lead will not respond to calls.

There is a specific "Columbia Par Car" section in the forum you may want to post this in. You'll get a lot more traffic that way.

There is no real way to test the module itself but you can rule out pretty much everything else so that, by process of elimination, the module is the only thing left.

A "no spark" issue is often caused by a poor engine ground. You should have a grounding strap on your engine. Make sure it's in place and that the connection points are clean. You may want to run a temporary ground from the - on the battery to an engine mount to be sure.

Assuming your ground is good, get a multimeter and and put the "-" on the - on the battery. Put the "+" on the + post of the coil and run the motor. If you have 12v at the coil then you are getting 12 v through the module but it's not firing. In that case the module is probably bad. Those can be found on Fee-Bay if you search for "Columbia Ignition Module." $120.

A note, while very effective, those modules burn out easily if you don't have a resistor-coil on your cart. People will put car coils in them, that don't have internal resistors, and those will burn out the module in a couple of hours. Make sure you have a coil with an internal resistor. It should say it on the coil. If it doesn't assume it doesn't have one.
