bought my first cart but wont start
I have a old Harley Davidson Columbia golf cart I don't know the exact year but It seems very old. it starts by pushing the gas pedal while the electric motor starts the gas motor. I have cleaned out the carb and changed the air filter and spark plug. it is getting spark. it is also getting gas to the carb but it wont start?? if I pour some gas down the head it will start and drive fine but then die. the compression I believe was 80 psi dry and I can see the gas being sucked all the way to the carb because I have clear hoses.

Re: bought my first cart but wont start
That's a good one! the compression is fair enough to start and you do have a spark but the gas does not seem to be getting to the firing area. I would suspect an air leak in the fuel line, vacuum loss to the fuel pump, no check valve in the tank, or loss of prime at the fuel pump. That is the best I can do without the cart year. Remember: An internal combustion engine has to have three things to run. 1. Good compression 2. A spark at the right time and 3. Fuel to the chamber If the engine does not run one of these 3 is not present even tho it looks like it is!

it looks just like the cart in the icon but without the top. I have the vin number just don't know where to run it. as for the cart not starting I know i'm getting fuel to the carb I know i'm getting spark but I don't believe I am getting fuel into the head because the plug is dry. hoses seem to be tight with no crack.

Re: bought my first cart but wont start
Then check the reed valve and the vacuum hole to the fuel pump. The reed valve could have a broken leaf or trash under a leaf. the fuel pump may not be getting a vacuum pulse. Also you could have bad crankshaft seals.

if I pull the pulse hose off and put my finger there I get vacuum. is there a way to test the crankshaft seals before tearing her down? anything else I should check if I take the motor apart?

if you get vacuum at the hose the seals may not be bad. You still have a fuel delivery problem. What year is your cart and what carb. do you have?
