Cushman GC400 CVT Question
Finally got one of my old Cushman GC400's running the other day. Its very slow but it seems to be a torque monster. It will go anywhere. With the engine bay open I've notices that when I rev the engine out the drive clutch does not push the belt all the way out to the edge of the cones. Is this normal? I feel like I'm losing some speed. I don't necessarily need it to go fast, I just was curious if this is normal.
The engine is a completely rebuilt kohler k241 with original crank that has the tapered output shaft. I'd like to keep the stock clutch since going to a comet duster would require swapping out the crank and I'd rather not do this since it is all buttoned up. The belt is new and the driven clutch also seems to have room to open up more. It might have something to do with no load on the driven side. Rather than weights and ramps this clutch has a heavy coil spring rapped around the center shaft that expands with increased speed pushing the outer cone away from the outer cover. There was a little wear on the spring, but not enough to limit the speed (in my opinion). I'll try to post some pics if I get a change. Thanks |
