New to golf carts
need help picking the best deal i have found 3 to pick from all gas #1 2000 G16 needs drive clutch jumps when you takes off it has a big grove in it 1600$
#2 same thing pulleys good shape but been sitting for a a couple of years it does run needs a lot of TLC 1200$
#3 91 columbia with lights back seat but older model 1700$

Long time Columbia guy here and, I have to be honest, avoid the Columbia. My folks had an '89 and a '91 when I was growing up and they didn't wear well. Now that I am older and into vintage carts I have two 85s. I love them for their style and originality but it's a labor of love for sure. They take some decent maintenance and toying to keep them running in top shape. Although parts are available for the Columbia there will be some occasion when you are looking for work-a-rounds because you can't find a part you need.

Conversely, those Yamahas just run and run and run once you get them honed in. Parts are plentiful too.

Do a bit more research on the difference between those G16s. You can make up $400 pretty quickly if that cheaper one needs something than the other doesn't.

I bought my first cart last year and it is a 1996 g16 that was in good shape. I snagged mine for1500 off of Craig's list. Since then I've put a lot more$ into it than I care to admit. They are easy to work on and for me it's turned into an obsession. I monkeyed with the clutches and carb, and started with a 6" single a arm lift. Last week I upgraded to a Jake's long travel and am waiting on my Vegas carts clone which should be here Thursday.

I can only speak for this Yamaha but I like it and like previously said parts are easy to come by. I am also lucky enough to have a Yamaha cart dealer that is only 20 minutes away and all of their oem parts are at stock pricing. Any aftermarket stuff is marked up considerably though.

I think the biggest thing you will find here is that asking people what is the"best" tends to lean to something like a Ford vs Chevy kind of deal.

Read around this forum and you will find most everything yo to learn and once you pick a cart and get specifics people are very open to helping. These biggest thing is patience.

Thats good advice.

I should have added that I have the two 85 Columbias, a 70s Cushman, a 60s Pargo, an 87 EZ Go Shuttle, and a newer Club Car. I have no brand loyalty. I will say, though the Columbias are finicky they are my favorite. Again, mainly for style. It seems that, as they can be bears, no one kept them and your dont see many anymore. I like that about them.

Although I have never owned a yamaha I see those old ones all over the place. I think that says something good about those carts.

Ok i have found a 1993 ezgo for 1500 what kind of motor is in it has a small oil leak I was told it has been rebuilt with back seat looks good what do you all think

In would say a lot of that depends on your mechanical abilities. I personally would be hesitant to buy a cart with a leak especially if they are telling you it has been rebuilt. I would think a propper rebuild the wouldn't be any leaks. Would make me wonder what else was wrong with the rebuild. But, if you are comfortable with fixing it or have other engine plans different story.

I know I got lucky finding mine in the shape it was and I found it quick. I did drive about three hours to get it though. Not sure where you are but that seems a bit high for a 93 by my location.

Try to ascertain where the leak is coming from. If from where the cylinder is seated on the crankcase no big deal. Thats just a head gasket or something. If somewhere else it could be a bigger deal like crank seals or worse, crankcase gaskets.

You need more recon on that cart!

EZ Gos are a helluva good brand though.

Oh, that motor will be a proprietary EZ Go 4 stroke motor. They didnt put someone elses motor in those.
