Default Predator 212 motor help

So I bought a 1991 club car DS and a predator 212 motor, and so the troubles began. After finally getting everything situated on the cart, my motor is now giving me trouble. So I added an aftermarket air intake from arc racing, a billet flywheel from arc racing, a vaccuum driven fuel pump tapped into the crank case, custom exhaust done by myself, and new jets and e tube. When letting off the gas the motor tends to backfire, it black smokes, and the spark plug is black and dry (rich?). I tried installing the bigger jets, it runs bad, tried the e tube, runs bad, tried a racing spark plug, runs bad, so I am stuck with stock jet and stock e tube. It also doesn't like to start, with choke on or off, not sure if this is an idle jet problem? Any help would be appreciated, and any questions I haven't already answered feel free to ask. TIA

How long has it been sitting since it last ran, before you started trying to get it running, because it sounds like the carburetor needs a thorough cleaning and then a careful re-adjustment.

A worn engine may not have enough crank case vacuum to operate the fuel pump. I've had great success using an electric fuel pump on my 1987 Cushman Truckster. Within a few seconds of turning the ignition key on I have full fuel pressure and the OMC 22 hp engine will usually start on the first revolution. With a vacuum fuel pump it took 4 or more revolutions before the fuel pressure was high enough for the engine to start and run. At idle it just barely had enough fuel to keep it running. The backfire sounds to me like your motor is running lean at idle, like maybe there isn't enough fuel pressure.

Fix the carburetor and fuel problems before trying to put fancy hardware on it. With it running well you will be able to see a difference when you add the fancy stuff. Adding all this without the motor running right is only going to complicate matters, since you won't know if the problem is the motor or the add-on that's keeping it from running right.
