Default HD/Columbia Carburetor

I have a 1983 Columbia gas cart with the Walbro WHL10-1 Carburetor... can the old style Tillotson carb be used in its place? If so, what are the advantages/disadvantages of doing this? Anything need changed to make it work? The Walbro carb is hard to find and expensive when I do find them... Thanks in advanve!!!

That is what I did on my 82.The intake manifold was changed to the earlier one to power the incarb fuel pump/metering system.I also ran an electric fuel pump to get fuel up to the carb.Lastly I made an adapter to connect to the air cleaner. The walbro carb on there had certainly seen its better days but with the larger bore of the tillotson the cart runs a whole lot better.

So a different intake would be required to make the Tillotson carb operate? I wasn't too worried about the air filter, I can figure something out there, just wasn't sure if anything else would have to be changed...

If you google harley golf cart intake manifold you can see the ones that have this port. The intake manifold with the walbro did not have this but did have a fitting to run the pulse fuel pump.So I used a low pressure electric pump. There might be a way to rig the later manifold but just an awful lot going on in the carb area so I just got the right manifold. The cart now runs the best I have ever seen but it had a hard previous life. P.S. There is a used one on vintage parts site for $37

Another option you may want to consider, I converted out of the Walbros and into Mikuni carbs. The Mikunis are used on 80s era EZ Gos and bolt onto your current intake manifold as-is as they have to exact same bolt pattern. The only thing you have to do is flip the Mikuni choke lever from one side to the other which takes all of 30 secs.

If you are interested, Mikuni BV-19 or BV-24 work great. I use the 19s.

I like the Mikunis a bit more than the Walbros as they only have 1 jet one fuel adjustment. They seem to deliver a more consistent acceleration. They can be had for cheap too.
