Default 96 Cushman Maxim Brake Help

Hey y'all I'm working on what I believe is a 96 Maxim Model# 898689
he problem is that the brakes need replaced and the rumor is that the cart has a different axle in it than the original. I think my main mission at the moment is to try and find someone who has the parts manual or specs for the brakes so i can compare the clusters that i have to see if they might be factory. Also if anyone has any insight on what axle is supposed to be in these things that would help also.

Thanks for any help!

I have no experience with anything Cushman that new, but Cushman sold out to Jacobsen in the early 90's. Then Jacobsen sold Cushman, or most of it, to EZGO, who seems to have wanted the Cushman name and maybe a little more. Jacobsen www.jacobsen.com seems to have many Cushman manuals, both in electronic form and hard copy. You might try contacting them to see if they can provide any help on the manuals and maybe also the brakes. They have been more helpful than ohers in the past regarding Cushman manuals and information. Maybe they have some parts too. I can get brake shoes through my local forklift repair shop for my 1987 Truckster, so they might be able to match up something for you, if you can take the old shoes to them. Then there is Direct Parts www.directparts.com who seems to have a lot of parts for Cushmans.

I found that early 70's Ford F100 pickups had wheel cylinders almost identical to the wheel cylinders in my 1987 Truckster, except for an outside bump on the casting that could be ground off. The rebuilding kit for these was identical to the wheel cylinder parts in my Cushman wheel cylinders, but then the forklift repair shop was able to get me new Cushman cylinders complete for $24. They also had an identical master cylinder on their parts shelf that they sold me for less than half of what they are selling for on the internet. An auto parts store may be able to match up your brakes too, if you take them in for them to see. A store with an older guy who has been in the auto parts business for years is likely your best chance here. The one that I found was a great help in finding automotive equivalents for what I needed. But they don't have cross reference books for Cushman parts. You need the experienced guy to recognize what you have and then find the equivalent part on the shelf for you.

Please report back on who was able to help you, and to what extent. It will likely help others in the same situation.

Sorry for the delay, but thanks Charley. I haven't had a chance to get the cart back in the shop, but I'll let you know what happens when I get back to working on it. Thanks again!

I should be here, at least within a couple of days, if you post again.
