Re: Cushman parts manual
The 898767 manual and the supplement are available on www.sillylittlecars.com. Go To "Manuals" and then click on the text "Shop maintenance manuals". The manual and it's supplement cover most of the models made in the 1980-1992 era, as best as I can tell. Cushman didn't change much year to year, or even model to model, so one of the ones in the manuals should be very close, even if not exact.
To know the year of manufacture of your Cushman, find the model number on the stamped plate that's usually left of the steering wheel and under the dashboard. The 6 digit model number will be there with a dash after it, followed by several additional numbers and sometimes alpha characters. The first two numbers following the dash are the year of manufacture. Cushman made the same models with very little change for about ten years before doing a major change in the design and model number. Charley |

Re: Cushman parts manual
I'm not certain that the 826767 manuals that are on www.sillylittlecars.com cover the 898507 Truckster, but they cover most of the models of Trucksters made in the 80's and early 90's. Cushman didn't change much from year to year, so even if it isn't listed as being covered in them, much of the wiring diagrams, and other information should be close to your Truckster.Do you know what year that your Truckster was made? If you can find the stamped metal plate that shows the model number (usually it's to the left of the steering wheel and below the dashboard. Although the 6 digit model number is stamped in several places on the Truckster, this plate is the only place that the model number is stamped with a dash following the 6 digits, and then several additional digits. In this, the two digits immediately following the dash are the year of manufacture. Can you post a picture of your Cushman? I or other members here might be able to identify more about it from the picture, especially if you can't find the stamped plate giving the dash and digits of the date code. Is it 3 or 4 wheeled? What engine does it have? The more that you can tell us or show us will better help us identify more about it.
These manuals on the Silly Little Cars website are the only parts and service manuals that I've found and they directly apply to my 1987 four wheeled Truckster. A separate manual wasn't produced for each model. Instead, Cushman made manuals that covered many different model numbers. You will probably need to check the first few pages of the manuals to see if your model number is included. You won't likely find any sheet metal body parts anywhere, even if you find the part number for it in the manual. The steering, engine, transmission, differential parts and part numbers will sometimes help you find a replacement part, but many of these parts were OEM. Cushman didn't make them. They were bought by Cushman to be included in the building of their vehicles. Many parts are actually still on the shelves in auto parts stores, but there is no Cushman cross reference to help find them. Sometimes taking the old part to the store will help someone there remember the part and find it for you. Tie rod ends, etc. can be found this way. The brake cylinder rebuild kits for my Truckster are identical to the early 1970's Ford F-100 pickup truck brake cylinders. The wheel cylinder is almost the same, but there is a bump on the Ford casting that is not on the Cushman cylinder. However, it can be ground off and the cylinder can then be used in a Cushman Truckster. The brake shoes are identical to those of a Forklift Truck. The master cylinder is also a direct match to one for a forklift truck. Finding parts takes time. OMC engine parts can be purchased from www.directparts.com. www.denniscarpentercushman.com also has some OMC engine parts, but they don't claim to sell anything but Cushman Scooter parts, however, one model of the Cushman Scooters used a one cylinder version of the OMC engine which is identical in every way to the two cylinder OMC engines, except for having only one cylinder. The forklift repair shops used to service the Cushman Trucksters when they were being used in industrial sites, so the one near me has been able to get me carburetor parts and brake parts. The master cylinder that I needed was on their shelf, and I got it new for less than half of what it was selling for on Ebay. I abandoned the mechanical fuel pump and installed an electric fuel pump, which eliminated the mechanical fuel pump, the bypass filter, and the return line fuel hoses at a cost of less than half of what a mechanical fuel pump was selling for on Ebay. These fuel pumps haven't been made for years, so a direct replacement likely has bad rubber parts from just sitting on a shelf, so is not a good solution, but a waste of money. The maintained fuel pressure from the electric fuel pump makes the engine run much better than the old mechanical pump ever did. Any auto parts store sells them. They have two wires, the red one connects to the ignition switch so it's on whenever the key switch is on, the black wire connects to the vehicle frame. Done. Charley |

Re: Cushman parts manual
Thanks for the reply, I really don't need anything right now but, I always like to have the manuals on hand. I have an 81 and it's in surprisingly good shape. I did find a digital version of the parts manual for my specific model and it's quite clear. I downloaded the repair manual from sillylittlecars but it looks to have been copied many times and is a bit hard to read. It is however much better than the Lotus Europa factory manual that looked like it was done on a mimeograph machine in someones basement.
Having spent about half of my life working on antique and exotic cars I'm not too worried about finding or making the parts I need. Dick |
