H.d golf cart no start
H.d. 1971 gas golf cart I just got this cart in so I know nothing of the history on it. Has 92 psi compression. Seems to have great spark. It will start up on starting fluid. The fluid has oil in it safe for 2 strokes. The motor runs great when I spray fluid in it but will shortly die if I let off. I have cleaned the carb twice. I also installed an eBay carb with not luck. The fuel lines are free of obstructions. It just refuses to pull gas. I checked the reed block and intake and it's a clear passage for the vent. Is it possible the crank seals are wasted not allowing any vaccume to be built in the bottom end? I Evan tried a carb I have on the shelf for a harley and it just would not pump fuel at all. I Evan blew in the tank to get the fuel right at the carb but still would not enter cylinder. Also the muffler is unbolted from the head to make sure that was not choking it. thanks for any help guys.

Also is there any way to check the case with pressure? It does not run So I can't spray starting fluid on the crank seals and see if it runs diffrent

Re: H.d golf cart no start
I know nothing about your cart, but I do know quite a bit about small gas engines.
Check the following 1. fuel pump & gas supply lines to the carburetor. Filter? Check it also. 2. Even though you cleaned the carburetor, there may be an internal port that is plugged. 3. Carburetor needle valve and float level. Old floats to not float at the same height as a new one. Replace it if it is 8 years old or over. 3. Is the float bowl filling with fuel? This is a good indication that the fuel pump is working and the problem is more likely a plugged passage in the carburetor. Your problem is mainly fuel supply related, since the motor will run when a prime of fuel is supplied. Keep looking for the fuel supply problem. Charley |

Re: H.d golf cart no start
The fuel pump is part of the carb. Not remote like alot of others.there is no bowl on the carb. Clear gas lines so I can see that it is right up to the carburetor. But the carb is just not taking it. Thanks for the ideas though.

Also I would assume Evan if the crank seal aRe bad. By blowingg and pressurized the gas tank it would take force fuel in. As of now I can get no gas in the cylinder.

Re: H.d golf cart no start
Is the passage in the intake manifold to the carb clear and all the gaskets lined up properly to power the carb's built in fuel pump ? There is even a hole in the reed valve plate that must line up. If everything is not lined up just so the vacuum pulse will not reach the tillotson carb fuel pump. I once had a gasket that wasn't quite clear of the reed plate passage and had to enlarge the hole for the pulse to work.

Well, as it runs temporarily on ether you can be sure that your issue is that you aren't getting gas. There is a related sticky on top of the forums that you may want to take peek at. Reed valve, bad diaphrams in the carb, bad crank seals are the primary culprits.

Re: H.d golf cart no start
No, the carb would take anyway any pressure you exert upstream. The fuel pump, internal on your carb, gets gas from the tank to the carb. Case vacuum sucks it from the carb to the cylinder.

Re: H.d golf cart no start
Well I just pulled the starter gen. To rebuild it. All wires were removed one by one so I don't think there mixed up. But it starts great in reverse but refuses to start in foward. I added a ground strap and that made it spin much slower in foward almost not at all. But reverse continues to work fine with it hooked up.
