Throttle cable smoking!!
How in the hell would my throttle cable be getting so hot?! It stated burning the plastic tubing and smoking. I removed the negative battery cable and it stopped. It I put it back on it will start getting hot again in a few seconds! If you look at the picture it's the cable on the lower side, not the one at a 90 degree angle. I put a multimeter to it and its reading 12v! Wtf

My engine block appears to have voltage on it!

Re: Throttle cable smoking!!
Do you know how to use a multi-meter? The last photo in post #2 shows that the meter is set to 20 milliamps, not to a voltage scale. 10.68 milliamps could be flowing anywhere between two points and is not sufficient to heat up a 22 gauge wire, much less a throttle cable. You have un-insulated wire terminals floating in the air and one of them might be touching your throttle cable and causing it to heat up. Another possibility is that the ground wire that connects the motor to the frame of your cart is broken or missing, and the only return path for your motor starter current back to the battery is through the metal jacket on the throttle cable.
You need to find someone with electrical debug knowledge and experience using a multi-meter in order to locate and correct this problem. Your photos aren't sufficient for me to even begin to tell you what is wrong, except to say that all those floating exposed wire terminals are a likely source of future problems, if not a cause of this immediate problem. Do you have an electrical diagram for your cart? It's a road map for the wiring and it will help someone with experience figure out the wiring of your cart. Without it he will spend considerably more time figuring out where the problem lies. Charley |

Re: Throttle cable smoking!!
Look for your cable hitting something hot when driving as well, like a muffler or something? It could be that your issue isn't electrical at all.

Re: Throttle cable smoking!!
throttle cable getting hot like that, 90% of the time is a bad ground on the motor or frame. And the throttle cable is the new ground. Fix all grounds to the motor and the frame and to the battery and this should fix it

Re: Throttle cable smoking!!
Found the issue. My positive battery cable going to the generator was rubbing on the engine to the point it had exposed wires touching the engine case.

Re: Throttle cable smoking!!
You don't have a good ground from the frame/battery to the engine, so the engine is trying to ground through the cable.
